Liam Clark

Liam Clark - Events & Operations Manager

Liam has worked for the Corn Exchange for 13 years, making sure the venue is client ready for a range of events including conferences, dinners, weddings & gigs .  He has an operational responsibility to make sure that all the bars in the venue run smoothly, and liaises with our catering team before and during events too – accurate table plans and food served at the right time are such a vital part of any event.

Liam takes pride in ensuring that the best service is delivered in all the events that he runs. Liam liases with the external suppliers, from caterers to AV to entertainment, in order to make sure that everything a client could want or need is covered. He will make time to meet with suppliers ahead of the event starting in order to avoid any challanges that could or may arise so that he can be ahead of the game. His attention to details allows him to excel in his role. 

We asked Liam what his favourite memory of the Corn Exchnage was and he has said "The high energy atmosphere during gig sound checks, and getting to work with Kanye West and Beady Eye are just some of my personal highlights working here. I also got to meet with Ian Brown after his gig. I have honestly been so lucky to see some of favourite artists perform."

Liam has recently bought a house so in his spare time he has been doing a whole lot of DIY and decorating. We're sure it's looking great Liam! When Liam isn't working in his house or at the Corn Exchange, he loves to spend his time with his family and friends, and enjoys going out for nice meals.

Paul Forrest

Paul Forrest - Head of Events

Paul joined the Corn Exchange team in 2001 and has been definitely made his mark. As one of the senior event managers Paul’s role is dynamic as well as varied.  No two days are the same, as an example, you can find him liaising with audio visual companies, working with promoters on artist riders, or acting as the operational interface with clients for their conference, exhibition or any other event.

Paul says, "My main responsibilities within the company consist of, running the majority of our larger events, working closely with brands and companies in conjunction with our two gin festivals per year, and assisting my colleagues on a daily basis." 

He particularly enjoys meeting the many celebrities and stars who have either performed or visited the venue but the one thing that stands out for Paul was “holding the Scottish Cup with my son Max, I’ll never forget it”. Another favourite memory Paul has from the Corn Exchange, is meeting his wife the very year he started here! Who says you can't find love at work?!

Outside work, Paul loves to spend time with his family, and get creative with their many family projects. Paul enjoys a nice gin & tonic or two, as well as watching movies and catching up on the football.

Ricky Asher

Ricky Asher - Events & Health & Safety Manager

Wears two hats within the company as our Health and Safety and Event Manager. Ricky takes care of client & staff health and safety matters including fire safety, risk assessments, and overall housekeeping for the venue.

With 20 years’ service at the Corn Exchange, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is our go-to man of everything health and safety! If you ever need a stage removed in the middle of the night for that extreme event change over, Ricky is your man! Especially when he gets to use his forklift! His attention to detail when it comes to health and safety, and also his event management is second to none. 

Event set ups, coordination and complex stage set-ups are a speciality, and Asian Weddings and large events are one of the areas he particularly enjoys. Ricky always makes sure the venue is ready to go for any event.

We asked Ricky what his favourite memory of the Corn Exchange was, and he says "it is so hard to pick! There isn't one in particular that stands out above the rest. If I was to pick any it would have to be the gigs! The experience of the artists that we have had is outstanding!"

When Ricky isn't in work, you'll most likely find him on the golf course or fishing! Ricky also loves to spend time with his family, and meeting up with his friends for that well deserved catch up.

Erika Ferguson

Erika Ferguson - Events & HR Manager

In 2005, Erika like many others started her Corn Exchange career working part-time whilst at uni. Having spent a number of years as duty and events manager and wedding coordinator, Erika’s role developed further in 2013 when she became our HR Manager.

Erika says, "I look after staff induction, training,  development and scheduling. My event management experience allows me to assist clients during their Wedding, Conference, Corporate Dinner or Private Party with ease and confidence, taking joy from every event we do."

An important part of her role involves staff training, and with the raft of strict licensing a key element is to ensure that staff are trained and kept up-to-date in areas such as responsible drinking policies, weights and measures and complaints procedures to name just a few. Erika's thorough training and knowledge has allowed the Corn Exchange to win many awards based on the high standards that our staff adhere to. 

"My highlights include being part of the team the years we brought home the Scottish Event Awards Best Large Venue, as well as taking part and winning the National award for Best Specialist Venue for the Best bar None scheme. I have been privileged enough to see artists such as David Grey, Faithless, and more recently Hot Dub Time Machine."

When Erika is outwith work, she enjoys socialising with her friends, getting engrossed in a good book, as well as listening to music. Her most favourite thing to do is to spend time with her daughter!

Hannah Matthews

Hannah Matthews - Events & Bar Manager

Hannah joined the Corn Exchange in 2008 working part-time whilst studying for a BA (Hons) festival and events management at Edinburgh’s Napier University. After graduating in 2012 she commenced full-time employment with the business within the sales office. She started off as our Wedding and Private events coordinator which she excelled in and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The events she has coordianted and organised were full of happy and delighted clients. Hannah has also had experience in running the Edinburgh Wedding Fair whilst in her sales role. The relationships that Hannah has built throughout her time in sales has carried on to her Event Manager role, and also one of the reasons she has this role. 

Within Hannah's role as an event manager, she wears two hats! Hannah helps the team run events that happen throughout the venue. Her attention to detail allows for the event to run smoothly from start to finish. Her experience from her early days at the Corn Exchange shines through within this role. Her customer service is second to none! 

When Hannah isn't running an event, she is organising and managing the bars! She liases with our suppliers to ensure our stock for the bar is constantly up-to-date and relevant to our guests. She works well with the suppliers to create a great relationship that everyone can trust. Hannah manages the stock and the bars throughout the full venue.

We asked Hannah what were the favourite parts of her work, she said “the family and team spirit and the diverse range of events every day. No event is the same and neither are the clients. It is a great place to work!”

When Hannah isn't in work, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. Hannah enjoys cycling and reading in her spare time, as well as trying good food and drink.
